This course is an exploration of the aesthetic, technical, human, and environmental issues of illumination design for exterior environments. Basic theory, tools, and components of lighting design will be presented. Issues common to architecture, urban planning, and the landscape, as well as conceptual design strategies, will be investigated in lectures, discussions, field trips, and a campus lighting survey project. A variety of invited guest professionals will lecture on technological developments, innovative products, and design projects.
